Mr. Tommy Suryopratomo

Mr. Suryopratomo, widely known as Tommy, serves as Pembina Yayasan Wellington College Independent School Jakarta, bringing decades of leadership experience across journalism, institutional governance and public service. Coming from a family of educators, education has long been a personal and enduring interest for him, shaping his commitment to stewardship, integrity and long-term institutional development.
Widely recognised for his value-driven leadership, Mr. Suryopratomo is known for his emphasis on accountability, credibility and disciplined governance. These principles align closely with Wellington College’s educational philosophy. In his role as Pembina, he provides strategic guidance to support the establishment of WCIJ as a trustworthy, joyful and high-quality international school with strong local relevance.
Previously, Mr. Suryopratomo built a distinguished career in Indonesian media and public service. He served as Editor-in-Chief of Kompas, held senior leadership roles at Media Indonesia and Metro TV and later represented Indonesia as Ambassador to Singapore. Across journalism, media leadership and diplomacy, his work has consistently reflected a commitment to integrity, public responsibility and institutional excellence.
Dr. Lim Lai Cheng
Governor
Dr. Lim Lai Cheng is an independent education adviser with extensive leadership experience in the Singapore education system and international education networks. She served as principal of three schools, including Raffles Institution, Singapore’s oldest and most prestigious school and held senior positions at the Ministry of Education in corporate communications, curriculum planning and policy development.
Internationally, Dr. Lim plays a prominent role in advancing positive education and sustainability in schools. She is a Board Member of the International Positive Education Network, Chair of the Singapore Positive Education Network and Co-founder of the Global Alliance of Leading-Edge Schools for Sustainability, a network of more than 30 schools worldwide. She also contributes as an adviser to several education foundations in Johannesburg, Bratislava, Moscow, Cyprus, Stockholm and Indonesia and chairs the Advisory Board of Principals Academy Inc. Singapore.
In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Ministry of Education in 2012. As a member of the Board of Governors for WCESG, she brings deep expertise in school leadership, policy and international collaboration to guide the group’s educational vision and governance.
Mr. Phil Mann
Governor
Mr. Phil Mann first joined Wellington College UK in 2008 as a teacher of Physical Education and Sports Science, before moving to Reigate Grammar School as Director of Sport.
Returning to Wellington College in 2018, Mr. Mann served as Housemaster of The Hill, a boys’ boarding house, while also coaching 1st XI cricket and leading the College’s US Universities programme. In 2023, he was appointed Director of Admissions and continues to teach and tutor across the College, maintaining a strong connection with student life.
Mr. Mann holds a degree in Sports Science from Loughborough University and is an ECB Level 4 accredited cricket coach. His career reflects a deep commitment to education, mentorship and developing opportunities for young people both on and off the field.
Ms. Fiona Carter
Governor
Ms. Fiona Carter is International Director at Wellington College International (WCI), where she leads new school development across the Middle East and Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. She also oversees the quality of Early Childhood and Primary education, ensuring it is academically rigorous and child-centric. Ms. Carter supports leadership development, recruitment and succession planning and convenes cross-regional networks of leaders in Primary and Early Years education.
She began her career in Sheffield as a primary school teacher, later joining Forces Education in Germany and advancing into school leadership. Back in the UK, she contributed to school improvement teams and led large-scale government initiatives in SEND, Early Years and school planning and inspection.
Ms. Carter’s passion for international education took her to Early Excellence, where she led consultancy, training and international school design. In 2018, she became Director of Academics for Wellington College China, based in Shanghai and later led their Central Office Institute of Learning, supporting bilingual and international schools across China.
A regular international speaker, Ms. Carter is a committee member of the ECIS Special Interest Group for Early Childhood Education. She enjoys building networks across the WCI community and beyond. Outside of education, Ms. Carter is a keen equestrian.
Mr. Tan Wee Han

Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Tan Wee Han is the Chief Executive Officer of Wellington College Education Singapore Group (WCESG), where he provides overall leadership, strategic direction and governance for the group’s operations across Southeast Asia. He is responsible for guiding WCESG’s mission to establish world-class Wellington College International schools in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia, ensuring that each school reflects the distinctive heritage and ethos of Wellington College.
Educated in Electronics and Electrical Engineering at Singapore Polytechnic, Mr. Tan went on to earn a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and an MBA from the University of Dubuque (USA). His career spans leadership across start-ups and listed companies on the Singapore Exchange, with broad experience in the food and beverage, wholesale and distribution, media, event management and security industries.
An entrepreneur at heart, Mr. Tan has built and led businesses that balance growth with innovation. At WCESG, he combines this entrepreneurial acumen with his passion for children’s growth and education, driving the group’s ambition to deliver schools that nurture future-ready, well-rounded learners.
Ms. Melissa Meyers
Founding Head of School
Ms. Melissa Meyers is a visionary and deeply experienced international school leader with a distinguished career spanning senior leadership roles across the Wellington family of schools in China and beyond. With expertise in transformative pedagogy, she has led Early Years and Primary teams in the UK, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and most recently at Wellington College International Tianjin, where she served as Head of Junior School and Co-Head of Early Years. Her leadership is defined by clarity of purpose, a passion for joyful learning and an unwavering commitment to unlocking the potential of every child.
A champion of evidence-based innovation, Ms. Meyers integrates the latest research in cognitive science, child development and holistic education to create dynamic learning environments. She fosters future-ready skills - critical thinking, creativity and emotional intelligence - through inquiry-led, play-based and experiential approaches. Her leadership ensures that well-being and academic excellence go hand in hand, empowering children to thrive as confident, curious and independent learners.
Ms. Meyers believes that strong relationships are the foundation of an outstanding school. Ms. Lynn McLaren
Deputy Head of School Pastoral & Well-Being
Ms. Lynn is a compassionate and relational school leader who brings extensive experience in pastoral care, well-being, safeguarding and school culture development. She has served in senior leadership roles in Wellington College International Shanghai and in schools across the UK, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Most recently, as Assistant Head Teacher and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead at Wellington College International Shanghai, Ms. Lynn guided Early Years staff teams, strengthened teaching practice, supported families and ensured that every child felt secure, known and encouraged.
Her leadership is centred on the belief that children flourish when they feel safe, valued and connected. She is highly skilled in developing positive behaviour approaches, embedding safeguarding systems and nurturing a culture of emotional well-being in schools. Ms. Lynn works closely with teachers to build reflective practice and a shared understanding of how to support children’s social, emotional and personal growth.

Ms. Shirley is a respected Indonesian educator with over twenty years of experience across international and national-plus school settings. She has held senior leadership roles including Head of International Division and Head of School and has worked across teacher development, curriculum implementation and organisational culture. She also plays a key role in supporting Indonesian national curriculum compliance and government relations, ensuring that the school’s practice aligns with local frameworks while maintaining an international outlook.
At WCIJ, Ms. Shirley serves as the bridge between the international Wellington approach and the Indonesian educational and cultural context. She supports teachers, families and the wider community in understanding the school’s values and learning philosophy, while ensuring that cultural respect, belonging and identity remain central to school life.
Shirley believes deeply in the importance of character formation and daily human connection. She brings empathy, steadiness and a relational approach that helps children feel supported as they grow in confidence and curiosity.
Mr. Chen Xingquan
Head of Chinese Studies
Mr. Chen Xingquan is an accomplished educator and curriculum leader dedicated to enriching the study of Chinese language and culture in international school settings. He holds a Master’s degree in International Chinese Education from Tianjin Normal University, where he was awarded national scholarships for six consecutive years in recognition of his outstanding academic performance and commitment to the field. He also holds the official Chinese Language Teaching Certificate issued in China.
With six years of teaching experience, including two in leadership positions, Mr. Chen has served diverse student communities across the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore and Indonesia. His work spans curriculum design, literacy progression, assessment development and the creation of interdisciplinary cultural programmes that deepen students’ engagement and understanding.
Mr. Chen is guided by the belief that Chinese should be a lived, meaningful and globally relevant language. He is committed to nurturing confident, curious learners who appreciate cultural perspectives and develop the empathy required to thrive as global citizens.
