Wellington College UK Named Co-educational Independent School of the Year 2026

Wellington College Independent School Jakarta congratulates Wellington College UK on being named Co-educational Independent School of the Year 2026 at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards.

The recognition comes at a significant moment in Wellington College’s history, as the College celebrates 50 years of co-education and marks a historic milestone of achieving an equal balance of girls and boys.

The award recognises schools that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to co-education, not only through academic achievement and co-curricular excellence, but also through the experiences, opportunities and values that enable pupils to learn, grow and flourish together.

For Wellington College, co-education has become a defining strength of College life. Across classrooms, boarding houses, sports pitches, performance spaces and leadership opportunities, pupils are encouraged to collaborate, challenge stereotypes and pursue their individual interests with confidence.

This commitment is reflected in a number of recent milestones. In the Sixth Form, 60% of girls study Mathematics and 73% study at least one STEM subject, while the College continues to expand opportunities for girls and boys across sport, the performing arts and leadership.

The anniversary year also saw the Wellington community come together through a range of initiatives, including the Pioneering Women’s Trail, the documentary Better Together: The Path to Co-education, a special arts celebration at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, and a co-education-themed Speech Day.

At the heart of this recognition is Wellington’s belief that young people benefit from learning and developing alongside one another in a culture of kindness, respect and belonging.

As part of the wider Wellington College family, Wellington College Independent School Jakarta is proud to celebrate this achievement and the values it represents.

Congratulations to the entire Wellington College community on this remarkable milestone and well-deserved recognition.
