Our Purpose and Values
Wellington College is steeped in purpose.
In 1853 the College was founded to serve our nation’s heroes by educating their orphaned children with a new kind of education. Although updated, our purpose resonates as strongly today, as it did back then.

Wellington College exists to provide young people with the knowledge, skills and character to fulfil their potential and serve the ever changing world in which they will live.
Our Values
Underpinning everything we do at Wellington are the College values. We ask everyone to embrace these values as our standard of interacting with one another and our actions throughout the day.
Kindness
Showing consideration of the needs of others and acting selflessly and generously for their benefit.
Courage
.The ability to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. To take calculated risks in the pursuit of goodness.
Respect
A positive feeling of esteem for a person, group, entity, or quality, resulting in acting with fairness.
Integrity
Consistency or authenticity. Acting in consort with one’s values or beliefs. It is the opposite of hypocrisy.
Responsibility
Being reliable, dependable, and accountable for one’s conduct. Fulfilling a duty. Acknowledging the need to serve the communities in which we operate.
